When the Wii first came out, it revolutionized the console gaming arena, allowing you to use your motions to control what was going on screen.  Games like Dance Dance Revolutions, and even the old Nintendo Track & Field all had similar aspects but it was never as good as the Wii ended up being.  Then, the Wii Fit came out and revolutionized the “video game fitness” category.  Then, many games were coming out that incorporated fitness into their routines.  A mix of these two is Your Shape Wii, a game that includes a camera that can track your motions and give you real time feedback for your workouts.

The demo videos and the trailer for Your Shape Wii show you being able to easily choose which type of workout you would like to do and what areas of your body you would like to focus on in order to maximize your workout.  Then, it shows you the correct way to do each of the workouts and it provides a ghost body layout transposed over your image on screen, and it notifies you when your body matches the guide on screen so that you know you are doing the workout properly.  Having real time feedback for any type of fitness activity is important because if you are doing it wrong you are just wasting time.  That is why I think the Your Shape is going to be good.

The reason I think it may bomb is because of the limited amount of workouts that are available due to the nature of video games and only being able to fit so much information on the DVD that has the game on it.  People will get bored with the workouts, especially once they are able to get the motion down pat thanks to the real time feedback.

Another drawback is the price.  Because it includes the camera which is essential for the game, the price goes up.  I think it will do alright but I doubt it will be anywhere near the popularity of the Wii Fit.
